1: Acorn cookies

One of my favorite woodland party food ideas were these acorn cookies. They’re so easy, using store-bought ingredients. And you can make them days ahead of time.

Acorn cookies

Recipe by Nana JanaCourse: DessertCuisine: AmericanDifficulty: Easy

These acorn cookies are super easy, using store-bought mini sandwich cookies and Hershey’s kisses.

Ingredients

  • Mini sandwich cookies (we used mini Golden Oreos and Nutter Butters)

  • Hershey’s kisses

  • Mini chocolate chips (you’ll need enough for the tops of the acorns as well as to melt for the “glue” that binds the cookies to the kisses)

Directions

  • Prepare your items by unwrapping the kisses and laying out the cookies and mini chocolate chips. You want to have all these things ready so you can quickly assemble while the chocolate is still melted.
  • Melt about 1/2 cup of chocolate chips in the microwave.
  • Dip a kiss in the chocolate and then glue it onto a sandwich cookie. Set aside to dry. NOTE: We thought these looked best with whole sandwich cookies, but I have seen some people take the cookies apart for just one layer.
  • Dip a mini chocolate chip in the chocolate and attach to the sandwich cookie, to look like the tip of an acorn. Let dry.

2. Meringue mushroom cookies

These meringue mushroom cookies were adorable and so easy to make. They’re one of our favorite woodland party food ideas. You can get the recipe here: Meringue Mushroom Cookies

3. Hedgehog cheese ball

More woodland party food ideas: A hedgehog cheese ball is so adorable. We used this recipe for the cheese ball with just a few exceptions. For the face, we only used pecans. I didn’t want the hedgehog to look cartoonish. I really wanted it to look grown-up cute.

We also placed it on a bed of fresh rosemary in a carved wooden tray.

4. Pond scum punch

This pond scum punch sounds gross but tastes delicious. I added a nasturtium leaf to each glass to look like a lily pad floating in the pond.

Pond scum punch was probably the all-time winner in the woodland party food ideas. You can make this drink as a cocktail or mocktail. I used nasturtium leaves for garnish because they looked like little lily pads floating in the drink.

5. Woodland and moss pretzel sticks

How to make woodland pretzel and moss sticks

It really doesn’t get any easier than these woodland pretzel sticks. You can make two versions – one that looks like birch bark and one that looks like they’re covered with moss. They’re both great woodland party food ideas.

Here’s what you’ll need

  • Long pretzel rods
  • White chocolate
  • Dark chocolate
  • 2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • Green food coloring

For birch bark pretzel sticks:

           1. Melt white chocolate in a deep, narrow microwave-safe bowl in the microwave. Swirl the end of each pretzel rod into the white chocolate, about 1/3 to 1/2 of the way up the rod, and lay on cookie sheet to cool.

           2. Melt dark chocolate.

3. Using a fork, sling the dark chocolate across the white chocolate rods to create the look of birch logs.

For moss-covered pretzel sticks:

           1. Mix a few drops of green food coloring into the graham cracker crumbs and stir to create a moss-colored hue. For the most realistic look, you don’t want to put in too much green, and you don’t want to stir it too completely.

          2. Melt white chocolate in microwave. Add a few drops of green food coloring and stir to combine, leaving it a little uneven.

          3. Dip pretzel rods into the melted green chocolate, about 1/3 to a 1/2 of the way up the rod.

          4. Immediately spoon the coated rod with the graham cracker crumbs and thoroughly cover green chocolate.

           5. Lay on cookie sheet to cool.

6. Log cookies

We used this pinwheel cookie recipe to make cookies that looked like cut logs. We rolled the dough into coarse sugar before refrigerating it.

We had a hard time getting them to roll evenly, but in the end, we liked the imperfect results. It seemed much more natural and real.

For a fun DIY project, we made woodland-themed cocktail picks for the cheese plate and to garnish drinks. Find out how here.
