Imagine a cross between the softest, most flavorful sugar cookie and a delicious creme brûlée. That’s what this creme brûlée cookie recipe offers. They’re remarkably easy to make, given their fancy-schmancy look, and are perfect for a party.
Do I need a kitchen torch?
What if you don’t have a kitchen torch? Unfortunately, from my experience, you really need a kitchen torch. I tried broiling this in the oven, and it did not work. Luckily, kitchen torches are very inexpensive. I found one on Amazon for about $10.
CREME BRÛLÉE COOKIE RECIPE

- For the cookies:
1 1/2 sticks butter, softened
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
- For the icing:
1 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
1 1/4 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup granulated sugar (for topping)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line two cookie sheets with Silpats or parchment paper.
- Cream butter and sugars until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking soda and salt.
- Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and beat until smooth.
- Roll dough into tablespoon-size balls and place on cookie sheet. Press down slightly. Bake about 10 minutes, until edges are lightly brown.
- Remove from oven and let cookies cool slightly before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Meanwhile, beat together cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla .
- When cookies have cooled, spread a layer of the cream cheese icing on each cookie.
- Sprinkle cookies with a thin layer of granulated sugar. With a back and forth motion, burnish the tops of the cookies with a kitchen torch.
